– Paul Wallace, Class of 2017
Meet Paul G. Wallace '17 from from Brooklyn, NY, is a student on our NYC campus, majoring in marketing with a concentration in advertising and integrated marketing communications. Paul is the President of the NYC Pace Advertising Club and is interning this summer at Katz Media Group/iHeart Media!
Where are you currently interning? Have you had any other internships previously?
I am currently interning at Katz Media Group which is a subsidiary of iHeartMedia. I have interned at two other places: Opt-Intelligence which is an email marketing firm, and Coca Cola as a marketing intern for Zico Coconut water.
What have you been working on at your internship? Has it sparked an interest in a career/area of study you hadn't already thought about? Or has it confirmed that you are on the right path?
My primary job is to assist account executives with advertisement sales. There are many different groups and currently I am working in the Television Spot department. Katz Media has a saying, "We don't own anything, We are not selling a product, Our most important thing is our people." When I heard this quote and saw how friendly, helpful, and energetic the people in the office were I knew without a doubt I was meant for a career in marketing.
Do you believe your internship experience has helped to prepare you for your future?
This internship has benefited me in so many ways. It has given me real life experience in the ad sales industry and has given a competitive edge over my peers. The ad sales team have allowed me to do everything a full-time employee would do...I'm not just an intern, I'm part of the team.
Any advice for other Lubin students looking for internships? What Pace resources have you used to help you, and would you recommend them to other students?
As a commuter, I did not use the many resources that Pace has to offer during my freshman year. That was probably one of the biggest regrets I have had thus far in my college career. Pace has such a wide range of clubs and resources it is a waste of time not to use them. My professors have been one of my greatest resources, as well as the Advertising Club. Every club has an advisor, and they are there to help and assist students. The Ad Club advisors, Dr. Chiagouris and Professor Nankin, have both been huge influences on my life and have become very close mentors.
In a few sentences, describe the best thing about your internship:
The absolute best thing about my internship is interacting and meeting people in the career you want to be in. I have met many CMO's, CFO's, Sales Directors, and even regular employees, and the one thing they all tell me is "Ask as many questions...my door is always open." Having access to these professionals and their knowledge is so amazing, and truly helpful.
